Questions
Justify the importance of identifying a plant/root correctly.
Identifying a plant correctly is unquestionably important. There is a very high risk of certain plants that you claim to be safe and helpful, are in fact dangerous and even deadly. You could be applying a poisonous plant to your body or intaking a fatal plant. You also never know which parts of nature you can be allergic to. Therefore, it is so important to identify these plants correctly that it can be life threatening.
Why would it be prudent to know a variety of species from other regions when dealing with natural medicines and food?
Not all the same plants grow in a specific habitat or biome. There are many different kinds of plants in other regions. Also, the varying types of species of plants you encounter could act differently than their original type. Therefore, it wouldn’t be very helpful if you only knew one region of plants and their species.
Would it make a significant difference if you were traveling in different seasons? Why or why not?
It would most definitely make a difference if you were traveling in different seasons. There are many different plants that bloom during different seasons and it would be hard to tell if a plant is really blooming or not. That being said, some chemicals aren’t present and usable in some plants during certain seasons. That could entirely change the abilities of a plant as a medicinal herb which is indeed very significant.
As a scientist, why would it be significant to develop a relationship with local peoples about their plan habitat?
It would be monumentally significant to develop a relationship with natives of their habitat. The locals will have more knowledge over the habitat and plants than anyone else. It would be hard to go to a land that is unknown to you and figure out the helpful and harmful plants. The local people would be able to provide a lot of helpful information of what the plants can and can't do. This relates to the previous question about the previous two questions, and it would be incredibly helpful to have someone tell you all about the plants and what seasons they blossom in.
If you were found without traditional medicines, would you trust your (or a reference text) knowledge of local flora to treat an illness or disease? Why or why not?
I would never trust myself in a million years to treat my illness or disease. I don't even think I could treat my own illness or disease in a cozy house, let alone in the middle of a forest all by myself. I would probably pick the wrong plant and end up making my illness way worse, or I wouldn't be intelligent enough to cure the illness with the plants and herbs surrounding me. Therefore, I would not any faith in myself to be able to cure an illness with medicinal plants, it seems to complicated and difficult for me.
